Step inside the VisionScan 3D

Step inside the VisionScan 3D and experience the future of blister leak detection. Our latest video offers an inside look at how the system detects gross holes and micron defects as low as 5μm in pharmaceutical blister packs. Watch how individual blister pockets respond to vacuum, how a cavity with a significant hole shows no foil movement, and see how the lidding foil moves if there's no hole or a micron hole present.

Discover how the VisionScan 3D utilises Vacuum Deflection (ASTM F3169-16 (2024)) to deliver accurate pass/fail results, setting new standards for efficiency and precision in blister pack leak detection.

Vacuum Deflection explained

Vacuum deflection testing serves as a critical tool in assessing the integrity of blister packaging by measuring the deflection or movement of the lidding foil under vacuum conditions. This process helps identify cavities that may have compromised sealing due to large or micron holes, through volumetric scans before and after the application of a vacuum. Understanding the nuances of this technique is fundamental for ensuring product safety and quality in blister packaging.  Key Features VisionScan 3D

  • Vacuum deflection method (ASTM F3169-16 (2024)): The VisionScan 3D uses vacuum deflection, a non-destructive and deterministic method capable of identifying defects in individual blister pockets, channel leaks, and weak seals as small as 5µm, depending on the pack and material.
  • Can test all foil types: The new technology can be applied to all foil types, matt or gloss. Different text patterns can be tested with one test method, making it ideal for production lines with multiple language print variations.
  • Large test area: The spacious test area of 297x210mm enables testing of multiple packs simultaneously, providing pass/fail results for each cavity.

Benefits non-destructive leak testing

  • Non-destructive and deterministic testing method: The VisionScan 3D offers a reliable and cost-saving alternative to traditional destructive leak tests for blister packs. As a tool-less, non-destructive, and deterministic method, it does not affect the integrity of the blister pack, allowing the tested packs to be returned to the production line.
  • Flexible and high throughput testing: The device can test blister packs containing tablets or capsules in various material and design formats. Its large test area allows for a flexible and high throughput testing process, while its tool-less design makes it perfect for production lines handling multiple products.
  • Streamlined validation process and compliance: The VisionScan 3D provides a streamlined validation process for different foil types and language versions. Additionally, the device is designed to meet 21 CFR Part 11 requirements and can easily integrate with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) through its MES connector MESConnect. This integration allows manufacturers to document data and activities, control production, and monitor and analyze processes, ultimately enhancing efficiencies.
